Anatomy post: Cerebellum and brainstem
The cerebellum is labeled as 2 here in this image.  Now you are looking at an image of an actually brainstem and cerebellum, sliced in half sagitally.  Do you see what I mean about it looking like a tree?  If you don’t know what I am talking about, see this post.  Just like cortex, the outer layers are cell bodies (gray matter) and the inside that looks like branches is white matter and composed of myelinated axons.  
By the way, 4 is the medulla oblongata of Adam Sandler The Waterboy fame.  It’s tough to detect anatomically just looking at a slice like this, but it is easier to find because it is just below the pons (labeled 3 here), which is very anatomically distinct as it bulges off the brainstem.
